A 20-BORE FLINTLOCK DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN SIGNED WOOD, YORK, no visible serial number,
circa 1815, with rebrowned laminated 32 1/2in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'WOOD, YORK', applied brass fore-sight, twin gold lines at breech and gold lined touch-holes, engraved top-tang with shallow carved sighting groove, border engraved locks signed 'WOOD, YORK' within inlet gold oval poincons, border engraved cocks, roller frizzens, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, raised cheek-piece, iron furniture except silver ramrod throat (hallmarked Birmingham 1820), white metal barrel key escutcheons and period ebony ramrod
Provenance: This shotgun is almost certainly the work of Joseph Wood who operated in York between 1815-1820, then again as '& Son' between 1829-48, although the original Joseph Wood name was still recorded until 1867
