A 20-BORE 1883 PATENT SINGLE-TRIGGER SIDEPLATED BOXLOCK NON-EJECTOR, serial no. 5498,
circa 1885, 28in. nitro reproved fine damascus barrels (in 1991), the rib engraved 'J. BRADDELL & SON. CASTLE PLACE. BELFAST.' (rubbed), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, left wall at 18, Anson & Deeley patent action, patent no. 1833 of 1883, use number 868, Westley Richards 1871 patent toplever with sculpted thumbpiece, automatic safety with brass 'SAFE' plaque, non-selective single trigger, the triggerplate engraved 'CHARLES LANCASTER'S SINGLE TRIGGER PATENT' (possibly a later conversion), fine acanthus scroll engraving with ornate bordering, the floorplate with additional floral designs, the recessed decorative sideplates with fine scrollwork, crosshatch bordering and Braddell trademarks to the rear, 14 3/4in. figured pistolgrip stock including 5/8in. wooden extension, stepped horn pistolgrip-cap, slim bolstered fore-end with Anson patent push rod release, patent no. 3791 of 1972, use number 19375, weight 5lb. 13oz.
Other Notes: Though the first Charles Lancaster / H.A.A. Thorn single trigger wasn't fully patented until 1895, there is evidence that Lancaster's did supply some single trigger guns prior to this date, notably to Arthur MacMurrough Kavanagh during his time as an MP (1866-1880)
