A 12-BORE WESTLEY RICHARDS 1871 PATENT SNAP-ACTION TOPLEVER BAR-IN-WOOD HAMMERGUN, serial no. 3101,
for 1875, 30in. nitro reproved damascus barrels (in 2016), the rib engraved 'GASTINNE-RENETTE A PARIS. BREVET WESTLEY RICHARDS.' and with acanthus scroll detailing at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. choke in both, left wall at 18, action incorporating Westley Richards improved toplever snap-action, patent no. 1572 of 14th June 1871, use number 391, toplever with sculpted thumb-piece, carved serpentine fences, rebounding sidelocks with carved hammers, bar-in-wood, border and bold acanthus scroll engraving, triggerguard gold-inlaid with a stylised 'I.R.', 14in. figured stock with steel heel and toe plates (insert repair at the toe), captive fore-end with horn finial (insert repairs replacing original cross-pin release, replaced with a screw fastener), weight 6lb. 15oz.
