A SCARCE 20-BORE BAR-IN-WOOD TOPLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 10075,
for 1877, 28in. sleeved nitro barrels (in 1967), retaining original rib (with 314 1/2 Oxford street address - rubbed), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 and 3/4 choke, carved percussion fences, rebounding sidelocks with dolphin hammers (right hammer repaired or replaced), fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, light patination overall, 14 1/4in. figured stock, weight 5lb. 13oz.

Description: A sidelock bar-in-wood toplever hammer game gun
Weight: 5lb. 12oz.
Calibre: 20-bore
Barrels: 30½in. Damascus
Choke: Both "Choke"
Stock: 14½in.
Notes:
1883: Choke removed from right barrel
15th January 1899: Offered by us for sale, but no note of who it was eventually sold to.

In addition, the address in the accounts books lists the address as 'The Distillery, Wandsworth' suggesting John Watney was a one of the well known brewing family
