A .650 PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED HOWDAH PISTOL, serial no. 2100,
for 1831, with laminated 8 1/2in. side-by-side barrels (some cleaning and mild frosting), bead fore-sight, flambe needles engraved to the rib-end at breech, platinum line, scroll engraved top-tang with rear facing flambe needles engraved within the sunken sighting groove, borderline and scroll engraved curved back-action locks signed 'I. PURDEY, 314 1/2 OXFORD ST.T. LONDON' on the tails, competently replaced colour hardened hammers, bolted safes, walnut half-stock with swept chequered grip swelling at the base and fitted with a moulded and engraved iron cap with central trap, captive iron under-barrel ramrod
Provenance: According to Patrick Unsworth's publication 'The Early Purdeys', this pistol was made as a single gun for persons unknown, leaving the workshops on 23 July, 1831.
The makers have confirmed that this gun was made for 'Howtroop' Esq.
