A SCARCE PAIR OF 80-BORE FLINTLOCK OVER-UNDER TAP-ACTION POCKET PISTOLS SIGNED B. TATE, LOUTH, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1800, with round iron 1 3/8in. turn-off barrels (frozen), one pistol numbered '1' & '2', the other '3' & '4' on the barrels and actions respectively, muzzles of all barrels starred for a key (absent), brass borderline and trophy engraved actions signed 'B. TATE' on the left and 'LOUTH' on the right within central oval panels, central ring-necked cocks, side-mounted tap-handles, sliding safes (one pistol lacking frizzen), slab-sided walnut butts with white metal oval escutcheons to wrists and guarded triggers
