A 12-BORE ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 3504,
for 1878, 30in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels (in 1991), the rib engraved 'BOSS & CO. 73. ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON.' and '2', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, right wall at 19, Jones patent rotary-underlever, carved percussion fences, rebounding back-action locks, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, 14 1/4in. figured stock including chequered steel buttplate, weight 6lb. 11oz.


Provenance: We are kindly informed that the gun was ordered on the 12th July 1878 by the Honble. R. Milnes of Fryston Hall, Ferrybridge, Yorkshire' as one of a pair of 'C.F. Guns'.
An illustrated file on the gun compiled by the vendor accompanies the Lot, including a photocopy of the original entry in the makers records and also a precis of the 1885 obituary for the Hon. Richard Monkton Milnes from the Pontefract and Castleford Express (supplied by Castleford Library in 1991)
