A SCARCE SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1910 MACHINE-GUNNER'S BOLO KNIFE, serial no. 25341,
dated for 1912, with 10in. bolo blade false edged for the last 4in, the left side of blade at forte marked 'S.A.' over the flaming bomb arsenal mark over the date '1912', the reverse marked 'U.S.' over the serial number, iron straight cross-guard with rounded tips, plain finger-grooved wood grips held with two screws, elongated iron pommel, in its canvas covered wood scabbard with leather reinforcement at tip and wire hanger (locking catch hook at fault)


Provenance: The M1910 bolo knife was based on the 1903 Springfield bolo bayonet, but with the bayonet fittings removed and replaced with a conventional handle. It underwent further modifications in 1917 when the US entered World War One, mainly in cost of manufacture, and was subsequently known as the M1910/17 Machine-Gunner's Bolo Knife
