A 25-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOL SIGNED ALLEY (DUBLIN), no visible serial number,
circa 1790, with octagonal slightly swamped 10in. barrel, the top-flat with traces of signature, applied white metal fore-sight, shallow notch rear-sight to the engraved top-tang, flat bevel-edged lock signed 'ALLEY', stepped pointed and engraved tail, swan-necked cock, roller frizzen and semi rainproof pan with gold-lined touch-hole, walnut full-stock with coarsely chequered bag-shaped grip (cracked through and repaired at wrist), single set trigger with spurred guard, iron furniture and horn-tipped ramrod, the whole darkly stained
Provenance: This pistol is probably the work of George Alley who traded from various addresses in Dublin between 1784-92
