A CASED 12-BORE PINFIRE DOUBLE-BARRELLED BAR-IN-WOOD TOPLEVER SPORTING GUN, serial no. 3763,
circa 1865, with browned laminated 29 1/4in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS 170 NEW BOND ST. LONDON', Westley Richards improved single-bite toplever snap-action, patent no. 2623 of 22nd October 1864, use number 368, scalloped fences, broad blued top-lever marked 'WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT', borderline engraved colour hardened bar-action locks signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS', colour hardened hammers, chequered walnut butt-stock with crab-claw joint to the smooth splinter fore-end (wood renewed at joint of fore-end), moulded horn tip, fair amount of period finish and complete with its leather covered oak casing lined and compartmented in green baize, parchment maker's label inside lid and including an exemption from proof certificate (no. c4745) and a letter from Westley Richards dated 1990 saying this shotgun was once part of their collection
