A .577 (SNIDER) MKII** ARTILLERY CARBINE SIGNED ENFIELD, serial no. 46,
dated for 1860, with blued 21 1/2in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, carbine size ladder rear-sight, flip-open breech with solid thumb-catch, plain lock marked 'ENFIELD' below the date and with a 'V.R.' crown device at tail, walnut three-quarter stock (blind crack below lock-bar) brass furniture, the heel-plate spur marked '6BY' above '7BE' above 'RL. AY.' above the number '46', two iron barrel-bands, bayonet lug to right side of muzzle, jag-ended clearing rod, fitted with a chained pin protector and a later buff leather sling, stock and furniture with bruising
