A SCARCE VARIANT HARVEY 1886 PATENT 10-BORE (2 7/8IN.) ROTARY-UNDERLEVER DOUBLE-BARRELLED HAMMERGUN, serial no. 1662,
circa 1870, 30 1/8in. black powder only bold damascus barrels, the rib engraved 'J. & W. TOLLEY. MAKERS. ST. MARY'S SQUARE. BIRMINGHAM' and with ornate floral, ribbon and acanthus work at the breech end, Jones patent rotary-underlever, carved serpentine fences, rebounding sidelocks with short hammers with low profile hare's-ear spurs and with retracting firing pins with drum-shaped strikers with knurled edges (rather than the usual square section) and horizontal pins operating in a curved slot to the inner faces of the hammers, slightly bowed triggerguard with long spurred straight skeletal pistolgrip, highly ornate engraving of floral and acanthus designs with feathered and cross hatch bordering, the lockplates with cartouches engraved 'J. & W. TOLLEY' and with small game scene vignettes of deer and deer-hound, retaining much original colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/2in. well-figured stock with ornately engraved steel buttplate with complex acanthus scrollwork surrounding a scene depicting lance-carrying riders mounted on horseback, central leather lined cartridge trap engraved with a central image of a gun and his dog encircled by the words 'J. & W. TOLLEY. PIONEER WORKS. ST. MARY'S SQUARE BIRMINGHAM', fore-end with crosspin release and sculpted horn finial, weight 8lb. 15oz.
