circa 1865, with round 25 1/2in. barrel, broad machine engraved top-rib marked 'WHITWORTH PATENT', block and bead fore-sight, 'Africa' style rear-sight consisting of six flush folding leaves, borderline engraved flip-up 'monkeytail' breech, borderline engraved lock (some pitting) marked at the tail 'J.R. & Co.' within an oval border and 'TRADE MARK', chequered walnut pistol-grip full-stock (well repaired at wrist), the grip pommel moulded and carved as the mask of a lion, iron furniture, the heel-plate with central trap containing the original cleaning implements, chequered trigger blade, single split barrel-band, iron under-barrel clearing rod and swivels for sling
