circa 1865 and of the 1863 Model type, with blued octagonal 5in. barrel, the top-flat signed 'JNO. RIGBY & CO. 72 ST. JAMES'S ST, LONDON', crescent fore-sight, sighting groove to the top-strap, solid frame with spring-bar release for the cylinder arbor, side loading gate with external spring, the left side of barrel throat marked 'W. TRANTER'S PATENT', plain five-shot cylinder with frame mounted spring tensioner, double action mechanism with exposed sear trip to rear of trigger guard, chequered walnut semi saw-handled grip, iron heel-cap with provision for centrally stored ejector-rod (absent) and guarded trigger, strong traces of finish
