A BELGIAN .577 COMMERCIAL SNIDER CARBINE SIGNED 'B.S.A. & M. Co.', serial no. U238, dated 1875, with 19 1/4in. three-grooved rifled barrel with Birmingham commercial proof-marks, lock with crown over 'G. P.' plus 'B.S.A. & M. Co. / 1875' receiver with Belgian inspection mark and commercial 'SNIDER / PATENT' arrow mark, shoe with catch and stamped 'BSACo', stock with various stampings, including 'X - DG', fore-end with filled cleaning rod channel, brass trigger-guard and butt-plate, worn, all ironwork stained with blinded pitting, shoe catch bruised and filed, stock crudely shaped under the catch, a probable conversion undertaken in Belgium
