A GOOD CASED PAIR OF 36-BORE FLINTLOCK LIVERY PISTOLS SIGNED OAKES & COLLEY, LONDON, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1795, with blued octagonal to round slightly swamped 8in. barrels, moulded and carved girdles, engraved bands at the breeches, the top-flats signed 'OAKES & COLLEY, LONDON', colour hardened top-tangs with borderline and trophy engravings, flat bevel edged colour hardened locks signed 'OAKES & COLLEY below the semi rainproof pans, trophies engraved to the stepped and pointed tails, frizzens with roller springs, swan necked cocks, walnut full-stocks with smooth bag-shaped grips, barrels held via two cross-keys, blued and engraved furniture and horn-tipped ramrods, both pistols with little use with a strong amount of original finish and in their green velvet-lined oak case with flask, mould, turn-screw and loading rod of the same period, the inside of case lid with 'ESSEX GUN MAKER' parchment trade-label
