circa 1840, with 3 1/4in. octagonal barrel signed on the top flat 'WILKINSON & SON LONDON', engraved band to muzzle, German silver bead fore-sight, London proofs, scroll and border engraved rounded boxlock action with notch rear sight, engraved side-hammer with sliding safety, finely chequered walnut bag-shaped grip with white-metal oval escutcheon engraved 'R J', central trap to the domed pommel-cap, guarded trigger and captive under-barrel iron ramrod, blued spring steel belt hook to the left side
