A .32-40 (W&B) MARLIN-BALLARD PATENT FALLING-BLOCK RIFLE, serial no. 26844,
circa 1885, with heavy round blued 26in. barrel, later tunnel fore-sight on a dove-tailed block, no provision for rear-sight and currently fitted with applied dove-tail bases and mounted with a 'WINCHESTER' B5 black enamelled brass-bodied telescopic sight, recoloured slab-sided central hammer falling-block action marked on the left hand side 'MARLIN FIREAMS CO NEW HAVEN CT. U.S.A.' over 'BALLARD'S PATENT NOV. 5 1861', the top-tang fitted with a Lyman style folding peep-sight, walnut butt-stock with raised cheek-piece, nickel-plated Swiss-style heel-plate, chequered trigger blade, re-coloured under-lever forming the trigger guard and fitted with a chequered gutta-percha grip, walnut splinter fore-end with schnabel tip, the underside fitted with an adjustable folding palm-rest with wood mushroom-shaped pommel
