German, circa 1855, with heavy octagonal 30 1/2in. barrel with seven groove rifling in Whitworth style, the top-flat of barrel signed 'H.G CORDES IN BREMERHAFEN, dove-tailed fore-sight with side protectors nearly forming a tunnel, elevating tangent rear-sight, scroll engraved breech-block with moulded snail, scroll engraved top-tang fitted with an adjustable pan headed peep-sight, chisel-carved bar-action hump-backed lock with en-suite hammer, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, raised cheek-piece, iron Swiss-style heel-plate (some pitting), complex spurred trigger-guard, double set triggers, semi schnabel fore-end and replacement brass-tipped ramrod
