A CASED .31 PERCUSSION COLT LONDON POCKET REVOLVER, serial no. 296679 'L',
for 1867, with octagonal 4in. barrel (some bruising but strong traces of blued finish), the top-flat signed 'ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA', colour hardened under-barrel rammer, colour hardened open iron frame marked 'COLTS PATENT', roll engraved six-shot cylinder (some shallow pitting), single action mechanism, blued grip-straps and trigger guard bow, all matching numbers, each location marked with an 'L' prefix or suffix for 'London', dome-head screws and in its English marked oak casing lined and compartmented in green baize, original instruction label inside lid and together with a scarce James Dixon & Sons copper bag-shaped flask marked 'COLTS POCKET FLASK', a steel double cavity Colts Patent mould, a pewter oiler and spare nipples

Provenance: The Colt London Pocket was produced in London until the Colt factory burnt down in 1856. Colt never re-established the factory, but their London depot continued to supply 'London' Colts, characterised by their blued iron furniture as opposed to the silver-plated brass of the United States models until the end of the percussion era. These 'London' specification guns were denoted by the addition of the letter 'L' above or below the serial number in the major locations.
