A .50-70 SPRINGFIELD (US GOVT) SHARPS MODEL 1863 (M1868) CONVERSION CARBINE, serial no. 75089,
originally an 1863 percussion carbine converted by the factory in 1868 to central fire by re-lining the barrel and changing the breech-block, with round tapering 22in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, small elevating ladder rear-sight, the top of barrel at breech marked 'NEW MODEL 1863' (faint), colour hardened receiver with vertical sliding breech-block operated via an under-lever forming the trigger guard, traces of the '1848' patent details to left side of receiver, the colour hardened lock with 'C. SHARPS PAT. OCT. 5TH. 1852', walnut butt-stock with iron heel-plate, the left side stamped with the rework inspector's mark 'DFC' in a ribbon, iron saddle-bar with loose ring and walnut splinter fore-end with single barrel-band
