A 12-BORE 1871 PATENT SNAP-ACTION BAR-IN-WOOD TOPLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 12388,
for 1873, 30in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels, rib engraved 'WESTLEY RICHARDS. 170 NEW BOND ST. LONDON.' (rubbed) and '2 PATENT', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored true cyl. in both, some pits and dents, Westley Richards improved toplever snap-action, patent no. 1572 of 14th June 1871, use number 2352, fluted teardrop fences, removable striker bars, toplever engraved '2' (top screw broken), non-rebounding sidelocks with dolphin hammers of pinfire form, border and fine acanthus scroll engraving, the triggerguard finial ornately decorated, 14in. well-figured stock with steel buttplate, the fore-end meeting the knuckle in a crab joint, with Deeley & Edge patent release lever, horn finial, weight 6lb. 12oz., in a vintage mahogany brass-mounted percussion gun case with Westley Richards trade label
Provenance: The Lot is supplied with a photocopy from the makers records, a certificate of Authentication from the makers and a letter regarding the history of the gun, having been completed as 'No.2 of a pair on the 30th August 1873 for C.G.O. Bridgman Esq.'
