PURDEY 12-BORE 1863 (SECOND PATENT) THUMBHOLE-UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 8378, for 1873, 27 3/4in. replacement nitro reproved barrels, rib spuriously engraved 'PURDEY. LONDON.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and full choke, right bore dimension marginal at 19 wall, action incorporating J. Purdey 1863 second pattern thumbhole underlever and Purdey 1863 double bite, patent no. 1104 of 2nd May 1863, carved percussion fences, non-rebounding isolated lockplates with central side nails and dolphin hammers, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining some renewed colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/2in. stock including buttplate, weight 6lb. 11oz.

Other Notes: The presence of the central side nail to the lockplates (rather than the usual forward location) would suggest that the gun was built with ejectors in mind
