A 24-BORE (.577) CONTINENTAL UNDER-LEVER SINGLE-BARRELLED HAMMER SPORTING RIFLE SIGNED V. HAEFNER, CASSEL, no visible serial number,
circa 1885, with octagonal 22in. barrel, the top-flat at breech signed in gilt 'V. HAEFNER BUCHSENMACHER IN CASSEL', dove-tailed fore-sight, 'Africa' style rear-sight with six flush folding leaves, each with machined engraved face with platinum centre-lines, twin gold lines at breech, border engraved rounded body action and top-tang (some shallow pitting), border engraved unsigned back-action lock with probable working replacement hammer, chequered walnut half-stock (hairline crack to head) and with carved raised angular cheek-piece, iron furniture except for moulded horn cover for the lower tang, double set trigger, swing underlever opening, chequered walnut splinter fore-end with cross-bolt fastener and fitted with a later canvas sling
