circa 1860, with octagonal 30in. barrel rifled in three grooves and fitted with a raised flat top-rib signed 'TIPPING & LAWDEN, HOLBORN, LONDON', dove-tailed fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, colour hardened scroll engraved squared breech, colour hardened scroll engraved top-tang, bar-action colour hardened lock with scroll engraving and bolted safe (hammer absent, square intact), chequered walnut half-stock with iron furniture including patch-box, chequered and raised lower tang, single set trigger, eyelets for sling and heavy duty brass mounted mahogany ramrod, the whole with strong traces of finish below surface corrosion
