A SCARCE 12-BORE HENRI PIEPER 'LE RATIONNEL MODEL 1894' SIDELEVER-COCKING HAMMERLESS TRIGGERPLATE-ACTION EJECTOR, serial no. 185595,
circa 1895, 28in. black powder only reproved barrels with tapered wave-cut rib, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/4 choke, Pieper patent hammerless action with pierced toplever opening mechanism, manual sidelever cocking / de-cocking lever, non-selective ejector, the standing breech with combined cocking-indicators and cartridge retaining stops (retract upon firing, allowing spent cartridges to be ejected, remain raised if unfired and act as a cartridge stop to non-selective ejector mechanism), articulated front trigger, carved oak leaf fences, acanthus scroll and floral engraving with some crosshatch bordering, 14 5/8in. figured pistolgrip stock (cracked through and repaired at hand), including 1in. wooden extension, horn pistolgrip-cap, the heel missing escutcheon, fore-end wood with some repairs, weight 6lb. 4oz.
