A 13-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING or PIGEON GUN, serial no. 5372,
for 1857, with well rebrowned 30in. damascus barrels, the top-rib signed 'J. PURDEY 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET, LONDON' (rubbed), bead fore-sight, engraved bands and rib-end at breech also with a single platinum line, engraved and vented platinum plugs, the rib and fully scroll engraved top-tang also numbered for '2' of a pair, border and scroll engraved locks signed 'PURDEY' on the bars, engraved dolphin hammers, chequered walnut half-stock, iron furniture and no provision for a ramrod


Provenance: L. Patrick Unsworth's book, 'The Early Purdeys' notes this shotgun as being completed on November 4th 1857 along with serial no. 5371 as a pair of 30in. 13-bore shotguns at a cost of £105.0.00 for the pair.

The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed for F Lambton (Scots Fusilier Guards)
