circa 1780 and with later conversion via drum and nipple to percussion, with brass octagonal to round triple-staged 15 1/2in. barrel with banded cannon muzzle, moulded band at the intersection and a further moulded band 1in. further forward, engraved ends to the barrel flats (rubbed), private proofs, engraved band at breech, border engraved iron top-tang, borderline engraved lock with moulded edge, stepped and pointed tail and signed 'THOMAS' forwards of the hammer, walnut shotgun half-stock chequered at the wrist, (repaired crack to underside of fore-end), brass escutcheoned sidenail cup, brass furniture except for iron trigger below fore-end releasing the triangular-form bayonet with concave sides and side-mounted brass-tipped mahogany ramrod with iron worm
