A .45-75 (WCF) WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 SPECIAL ORDER LEVER-ACTION REPEATING RIFLE, serial no. 63754,
for 1897 and one of the last produced, with octagonal 28in. barrel signed on the top-flat, dove-tailed fore-sight, flush-folding six-leaf 'Africa' rear-sight with further folding ladder-sight, slab-sided receiver with side-plates and side loading gate, sliding dust-cover above breech and exposed hammer, walnut straight hand butt-stock, crescent heel-plate with sliding trap, plain trigger, smooth walnut fore-end and full-length under-barrel magazine, traces of finish on barrel and in sheltered areas
Provenance: The Winchester 1876 was an obsolete model by 1897 and in that year Winchester decided to do a parts clear-up, producing 166 rifles. The following year, only one more example was produced and then production ceased altogether
