for 1899, 29in. bold damascus nitro barrels, the ribs engraved 'JOHN DICKSON & SON. 63 PRINCES STREET. EDINBURGH' and '1' and '2' at the breech ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, Dickson triggerplate actions incorporating patents 9399 and 10621 of 1997, use numbers 761 and 762, the toplevers engraved '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, profusely engraved with bold acanthus scrollwork on a matted background, the makers name in scrolling banners to the sides, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, No.1 with replacement triggerguard tang screw, 15 1/4in. well-figured stocks including 5/8in. horn buttplates, the fore-end woods finely inset in white metal '1' and '2', weight 6lb. 12oz., in their brass-cornered oak and leather case
