A 12-BORE 'THE GUN OF THE PERIOD' BOXLOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 10187,
for 1898, 28 1/8in. nitro reproved barrels (in 1959, possibly blacked damascus), file cut matt rib, the tubes engraved 'THE GUN OF THE PERIOD. 10187. G.E. LEWIS. 32 & 33 LOWER LOVEDAY ST. BIRMINGHAM.', the breech ends with feathered bordering, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and full choke, treble-grip action, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, acanthus scroll engraving surrounding vignettes of partridge and pheasant, the triggerguard with two hounds flushing a pheasant, patinated finish, 14 1/4in. figured stock including rubber recoil pad, fore-end with Deeley & Edge release catch and horn finial, weight 6lb. 14oz.
