A PAIR OF 12-BORE 1887 PATENT ROUND-ACTION TRIGGERPLATE-ACTION EJECTORS, serial no. 6128 / 9,
for 1911, 29in. nitro reproved chopperlump barrels (No.1 in 1983, No.2 in 1978), the ribs gold-inlaid '1' and '2' at the breech ends, address inscriptions rubbed, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, Dickson triggerplate actions incorporating patents 9399 and 10621 of 1997, use numbers 1330 and 1331, the toplevers engraved '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, profusely engraved with bold acanthus scrollwork on a matted background, the makers name in scrolling banners to the sides, bright finish, 14 7/8in. well-figured stocks, weight 6lb. 9oz., in their brass-cornered oak and leather case with gold-tooled leather trade label and quilted internal protecting flap, the lid outer marked 'NUGENT HOPE'
Provenance: The guns are listed in the makers records as having been sold on the 17th October 1911 with 29in. barrels. The patent use numbers, though correct in numerical sequence do not appear to have been listed

This pair of Dickson round-action shotguns belonged to my cousin, Laurence Nugent Hope of Whitney Court in Herefordshire, and were made for him. On his death in 1973, his widow, Mrs Constance Hope, gave them to my father, Archie Coats. He used them for many years, both for his profession of pigeon shooting and for game shooting, including taking them to La Mancha in Spain to shoot wild partridge with Tom Gullick. In 1989, on my marriage, he passed them on to my husband, Richard Owen as a wedding present, and Richard has used them regularly up until the present date.
