circa 1865, 28in. black powder only reproved bold damascus barrels (in 1976), sunken rib engraved 'J. H. CRANE. MAKER. 3 ROYAL EXCHANGE. LONDON. E.C. (CHARLES WM. LANCASTER'S PATENT No. 172)', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. choke in both, ornate pierced rotary-underlever, carved serpentine fences, non-rebounding sidelocks with high-spurred hammers, permanently-attached fore-end (replacement wood) with extractor cam, horn finial, action flats marked 'CHARLES W. LANCASTER'S PATENT. 172', fine border and bold acanthus scroll engraving, patinated finish, 14 3/8in. well-figured stock including horn buttplate, weight 6lb. 15oz.
