circa 1850, with Birmingham proved laminated octagonal 9in. barrel signed 'H. SMITH, LONDON', dove-tailed white metal fore-sight, diminutive standing notch rear-sight, twin white metal bands and scroll engraving at breech, acanthus scroll engraved top-tang, fenced snail, borderline and scroll engraved curved back-action colour hardened lock signed 'H. SMITH', safety bolt behind the engraved hammer, walnut half-stock with chequered full pistol-grip flaring at the pommel and decorated with a white metal band, the flat heel with central trap, set trigger with spurred guard and brass-tipped ebony ramrod, strong amount of finish remaining
