A FINE CASED PAIR OF 54-BORE PERCUSSION OFFICER'S PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1835, with browned twist iron octagonal 9 1/2in. barrels, the top-flats signed in gilt 'D. EGG, LONDON', turned bead fore-sights, dove-tailed standing notch rear-sights, engraved and gold bands to the colour hardened breech-blocks, fully engraved top-tangs, platinum vented plugs, border and scroll engraved colour-hardened bar-action locks signed 'D. EGG', engraved sliding safes behind the engraved dolphin headed hammers, martial trophies engraved to the lock tails, french-polished walnut half-stocks with chequered bag-shaped butts, blued steel borderline and scroll engraved domed butt-caps with complex edges, blued border and trophy engraved spurred trigger-guard bows, set triggers, borderline engraved moulded iron nose-caps to the fore-ends, silver barrel-key escutcheons and mahogany horn-tipped ramrods, both pistols remaining in a remarkable state of preservation with the majority of their original finish intact and complete in their manufacturer's mahogany case with brass flush-fitting circular handle, the interior lined and compartmented in green baize, parchment inlet trade-label inside lid proclaiming 'Maker to His Majesty The Duke of York' and 'Detonators on the Best Principals', the tray containing the pistols, a powder flask, a cap-pot, loading mallet, bullet mould, turn-screw and other sundries.
