Product Details

A RARE .650 PERCUSSION CARBINE SIGNED JOHN GARDEN, no visible serial number,
circa 1845, with London proved 21in. barrel, diminutive applied fore-sight, no provision for rear-sight, the short flat sighting plane at breech signed 'JOHN GARDEN', hooked breech with plain top-tang and moulded snail, unusual plain lock with deep bar and signed 'JOHN GARDEN', plain slab-sided hammer, walnut full-stock with brass furniture, the trigger guard finial of Baker Rifle form, two escutcheon-less barrel-keys, moulded sideplate possibly designed to accept a saddle-bar, brass rounded nose-cap and captive iron stirrup ramrod

Other Notes: This unusual carbine was most probably produced with potential sales to militia, volunteer or colonial units in mind. No trace can be found of John Garden whilst of course his namesakes, Robert, Hugh and even Garden & Co. were well known for their military contracts. There is a possibility that the name was made up to gain sales from the reputation of the better known members of the Garden family
