A FINE CASED 14-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, serial no. 1508,
for 1853, with browned 29 1/2in. damascus barrels, the top-rib signed 'JOHN DICKSON & SON, 63 PRINCES STREET EDINBURGH', bead fore-sight, scroll engraved rib-end, carved buttresses with engraved platinum vents, fully engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'JOHN DICKSON & SON' within scrolled borders and featuring a vignette of a hunting dog on the left lock and a pair of game birds on the right, scroll engraved dolphin headed hammers, chequered and figured walnut half-stock with iron furniture, the heel-plate with border, scroll and game-scene engraved top-spur and border engraved screw-sockets, engraved trigger-guard bow and tang, engraved finial and ramrod throat, complete with its original brass mounted ebony ramrod, good amount of original finish and colour, complete with its almost certainly original walnut storage case, compartmented and lined in maroon velvet (faded brown) and complete with a period powder flask, shot flask, patch-pot, cap tin, nipple primer and dismountable cleaning rod with sundry cleaning attachments (some compartments loose, padded lid lining coming away, lid escutcheon and closure hooks missing)
