A 12-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, no visible serial number,
circa 1805 with later conversion to percussion, 29 1/4in. browned barrels marked on the underside 'STUB TWISTED', the top-rib signed in script 'W.B. PIRRIE, GUNMAKER FROM LONDON, FORFAR', carved and moulded breech-block with twin platinum lines and plugs, scroll engraving to the rib-end, scroll engraved top-tang further engraved with the mask of a big cat to the shallow sighting groove, border and scroll engraved locks signed 'ALEX THOMPSON, EDINBURGH' (faded possibly refreshed colour present) and retaining external springs possibly for a previous 'scent-bottle' mechanism, chequered walnut half-stock, iron furniture, the lower tang fitted with long bar grip-safety, turned ramrod thimbles and period brass-mounted ebony ramrod
