A 28-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOL BY BIRD & ASHMORE, CIRCA 1810, no visible serial number,
10in. sighted octagonal barrel, top flat engraved 'LONDON', fixed breech with engraved decoration, bevelled borderline engraved lock with stepped tail and some foliate engraving together with a sunburst and the makers name 'BIRD & ASHMORE' to the centre, raised semi-waterproof pan and roller to frizzen spring, swan-neck cock engraved to match, full walnut stock with plain bag shaped grip, vacant oval escutcheon, iron trigger-guard with foliate engraved bow and pineapple finial, complete with ebonised rod (probably original)

Provenance: This is a true dueller and not an officers pistol, it being of a reduced calibre and with a 10in. rather than a 9in. barrel, the makers Bird & Ashmore, although they marked their guns London were actually a Birmingham firm, established 1807 to 1812 at Great Charles St. and Edmund St.
