A .41 (RIMFIRE) FACTORY ENGRAVED SOUTHERNER SINGLE SHOT DERRINGER PISTOL, CIRCA 1869, serial no. 1745,
2 1/2in. octagonal barrel, the top flat faintly inscribed 'SOUTHERNER' and on the left flat 'BROWN'S MFG. / NEWBURYPORT, MASS / PAT. APRIL 1867', brass frame and backstrap engraved with open American floral scrolls with a circle-punched background, sheath trigger, and two piece mother of pearl grips
Other Notes: Approx. 10,000 of these pistols were made between1869 and 1873
