The vendor has kindly provided us with the following information:

The guns were acquired in the mid-fifties by Newmarket racehorse trainer, Jack Waugh. Mr. Waugh was a leading member of a distinguished racing family being one of the third generation of Newmarket trainers dating back to his Grandfather James Waugh who came to the town in the 1880's. As a young man he was assistant trainer to his Father, R. Tom Waugh, and then to Basil Jarvis prior to wartime service with the Royal Artillery. On his return to Newmarket he took over his Uncle Dawson Waugh's string and then began training on his own account at Heath House where he trained for over thirty years for some of the country's leading owners including the late Lord Howard de Walden. He won many top class races including, amongst others, the Stewards Cup at Goodwood with Matador for Mr. Stanhope-Joel and the July Cup on two separate occasions with Matador and Lucasland. He had a good record at Royal Ascot winning the Ribblesdale Stakes (twice), the Coventry Stakes as well as the Queen Mary Stakes, the Windsor Castle Stakes, the Wokingham Stakes and the Cork and Orrery Stakes, again with Matador.
On his retirement in 1970, Mr.Waugh managed the famous Egerton and Lordship Studs then owned by Lady Macdonald-Buchanan for whom he had trained.
A fine and elegant shot Mr.Waugh was a frequent guest at some of East Anglia's more notable shoots. During this period his guns were regularly serviced by Messrs. Gallyon of Cambridge. He continued shooting until his mid-seventies and after that the guns remained in the family and have been virtually unused since.
