A GOOD 80-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT TARGET-RIFLE, no visible serial number,
circa 1835, with 29in. octagonal barrel, the top-flat at breech signed in gothic silver lettering 'J. ADAM. KUCHENREUTER IN REGENSBURG' together with a deeply struck silver inlaid poincon of an armed soldier on horseback, muzzle inlet for ball-starter (missing), dove-tailed and ramped fore-sight blade, standing notch elevating rear-sight with carved tail, fully scroll engraved breech-block, fully scroll engraved top-tang also inlet with a silver escutcheon engraved with a crown over 'De M' and with a socket for a peep-sight (absent), flat, hump-backed lock-plate engraved with scrolls and a stag at rest, scroll engraved hammer, carved and moulded walnut half-stock of semi Tyrolean form with exaggerated cheek-piece and complex chequered panels at wrist, complex shaped iron patch-box engraved with scrolls and a standing stag, heavy curved butt-plate with engraved edges, carved and moulded walnut trigger-guard bow inlet along the leading face with a scroll engraved iron fillet, double set triggers, horn fore-end tip and brass tipped iron ramrod, complete with a later walnut muzzle-plug
