29in. nitro reproved Whitworth-steel barrels, ribs engraved 'JAMES WOODWARD & SONS, 64 ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL', and gold-inlaid '1' and '2' at the breech ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, arcaded fences with side-clips, removable striker discs, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, protruding tumbler pivots with gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, profusely engraved with fine acanthus scrollwork, retaining traces of original colour-hardening,14in. boldly-figured stocks with Prince of Wales semi-pistolgrips, horn pistolgrip-caps and buttplates (light damage to buttplates), No.1 fore-end wood with light damage, weight 6lb. 12oz., in their brass-cornered oak and leather case with some accessories

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the guns were completed in October 1897 for Major H. T. Fenwick

Henry Thomas Fenwick C.M.G. D.S.O. M.V.O (1863-1939) was a British army Officer & Liberal Party politician. In 1899 he was 2nd in command of the Royal Horse Guards and served with them during the 2nd Boer War (1899-1901). He was mentioned in despatches and appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order for his services in 1900. After the war he was appointed Commander of the Royal Horse Guards
