A 12-BORE 'ROYAL' FACILE PRINCEPS EJECTOR, serial no. 39654,
30in. nitro reproved (in 2017) Greener trademark fine damascus barrels, the tubes finely engraved with acanthus scrollwork at the breech and muzzle ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and true cyl. choke, scroll-back treble-grip action with carved serpentine fences, toplever gold-inlaid with a crown, manual side-safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, incorporating Greener's improved ejector patent 2003 of 1881, use number 1927, the action profusely engraved with fine scrollwork surrounding vignettes of spaniel flushing mallard, pointer and partridge, the underside with a two rabbits, the safety engraved with a further rabbit, the triggerguard with two pointers, the tang with a skein of fowl and the serial number, 14 3/4in. stock with horn insert spearhead drop points, ornate chequering borders and including 5/8in. buttplate, fore-end with replacement wood, weight 7lb. 3oz., in its brass-cornered leather case

Provenance: The makers have kindly supplied the following information regarding the gun:

"W. W. Greener gun no. 39654 was started on 7th December 1891 and finished on 14th April 1892. It is a 12 bore with 30 inch barrels - original owner is not recorded. Stock dimensions 2 by 14-3/8 inches. A Royal grade ejector engraved by Perry."

The vendor has kindly provided us with the following information:

"The original owner was James Borwick Darwin, as shown by the licences. He travelled out to South Africa and left the shotgun with Syfrets comnpany for safe keeping. He was never heard of again. I have been unable to find any record of his death in either the South African or UK registers"
