A SCARCE PADDLE or SWORD-CLUB FROM SOUTH MASSIM, PAPUA NEW GUINEA,
mid to late 19th century, constructed of palm-wood with asymmetric 28 1/2in. tapering 'blade' radiused on one face and stepped approximately two thirds of the way along, the hilt carved in the stylised form of a fregatbird, 37 1/2in. overall.
