A .50-70 BREECH-LOADING CARBINE, MODEL 'CENTRAL-FIRE CONVERSION OF THE 1859 NEW MODEL', serial no. 61377,
or '1867 Model', converted circa 1867, with original 22in. six-groove barrel, block and blade fore-sight, folding ladder rear-sight, 'NEW MODEL 1859' stamped at breech, vertical dropping block receiver with sprung firing pin, the lockplate with redundant in-built pellet primer and marked 'R.S. LAWRENCE PAT. APRIL 12TH 1859', the body of the lock marked 'C. SHARPS PAT. OCT. 5TH 1852', straight hand walnut butt-stock, no provision for patchbox, a possible collection identity stud fixed centrally just forwards of the iron heel-plate on the left side embossed '6', under-lever opening, saddle-ring mounted to left hand side of the receiver, the left of receiver marked 'C. SHARPS PAT SEPT 12TH 1848', walnut splinter fore-end and single iron barrel-band, overall length 39in., weight approximately 8lbs.
