for 1849, with browned octagonal damascus 30in. barrel, the top-flat signed 'THOMAS BOSS 73 ST JAMES'S STREET LONDON', elongated bead fore-sight, rear-sight of one standing notch and one folding leaf, colour hardened breech-block with platinum line and vented plug, fully scroll engraved top-tang, borderline and scroll engraved colour hardened lock signed on the bar 'THOMAS BOSS', sliding safe behind the scroll engraved dolphin-headed hammer, chequered dark maplewood half-stock with raised cheek-piece, iron circular patchbox to right side of butt engraved with borders and scrolls and with a central engraving of one standing and one recumbent stag, blued iron furniture (heel-plate refinished), chequered spur to the lower tang, eyelets for a sling and bun-headed brass ramrod, much finish remaining
