A 12-BORE SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 1361,
circa 1894, 30in. nitro reproved Whitworth steel chopperlump barrels, acanthus scroll detailing at the breech ends, the rib engraved 'F. BEESLEY. (FROM PURDEY'S) 2. ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON. CORNER OF PALL MALL.' (likely refreshed), the tubes engraved 'WHITWORTH'S. FLUID PRESSED STEEL.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, treble-grip action with carved leaf fences, slender toplever engraved 'PATENT', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, the lockplates with scrolling banners engraved 'F. BEESLEY FROM PURDEY'S PATENT', retaining some renewed colour-hardening and finish, 13 7/8in. figured replacement stock, weight 6lb. 12oz., in its brass-cornered oak and leather case with a canvas and leather outer cover

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was ordered on the 22nd March 1894 for a Knut Ljunglof of Stockholm

Knut Fredrik Ljunglof the 'King of Snuff' (1833 - 1920) took over the family snuff business (the largest in Sweden) in 1860 and by the early 20th century, the company was the largest producer of snuff in Europe.
