A .577-450 (M/H) SINGLE-SHOT CARBINE, MODEL 'SWINBURN'S PATENT 'MARTINI'', serial no. V940,
circa 1885, with blued 23 1/4in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, small elevating ladder rear-sight, the side of barrel behind rear-sight marked 'HENRY'S PATENT A&T 1632' and with a maker's barrel stamp 'JK.L' (possibly James Kerr), slab sided receiver engraved 'V & R BLAKEMORE, LONDON' and stamped 'SWINBURN'S PATENT on the left, dropping feed-ramp (auxiliary cocking lever safety removed on the right), integral top-tang, chequered walnut butt-stock with plain iron heel-plate, short finger-lever, chequered walnut three-quarter length fore-end with side screws for a leather sight protector (absent), missing nose-cap, no provision for clearing rod, metal surfaces refinished.
