A RARE .44 (EVANS) REPEATING LEVER-ACTION SPORTING-RIFLE, MODEL 'TRANSITION SPORTER', serial no. 1977,
for 1876-77, with blued octagonal 26in. barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight, fixed notch rear-sight with folding ladder (slider absent), moulded blued receiver formed in two halves with integral magazine housing in the butt, applied walnut comb and heel, rear loading gate in the crescent heel-plate, re-curved under-lever forming the trigger guard and smooth splinter walnut fore-end with iron nose-cap, the whole retaining much original finish
